Melaka Bersatu Chief Refuses To Heed Calls To Resign

(FMT) – Melaka Bersatu chief Dr Yadzil Yaakub has shot down calls from within the party for him to resign following the suspension of the Jasin division he leads.
Instead, the Bemban assemblyman, questioned whether the “grassroots” quoted by FMT in a report last night represent the majority of Melaka Bersatu members or merely a small faction.
“It is natural for leaders not to please everyone,” said Yadzil, who is also the state opposition leader and Melaka Perikatan Nasional chief.
“This (call for his resignation) shows that I am doing something right.
“I am confident I have done my best, which has led to jealousy regarding my success and attempts to overthrow me,” he told FMT.
He said the “competition” for positions within Bersatu Melaka was a positive sign and showed that the party was still a preferred choice despite being the opposition in the state.
The FMT report had quoted a Melaka Bersatu grassroots leader as urging Yadzil to step down and suggesting that Mas Ermieyati Samsudin take over the position, following the suspension of Bersatu Jasin by the party’s Supreme Council last week.
Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati, who is also the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, is set to be the new Wanita Bersatu chief after its incumbent, Rina Harun, decided not to defend the post in the party elections next month.
FMT previously reported that the Jasin division had been suspended after it allegedly failed to hold meetings.
Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin confirmed the matter and said the division would now be managed and administered by the supreme council.
Sources told FMT the suspension came after it was discovered that there were branches under the division that had failed to hold meetings despite claiming otherwise.
