The festive spirit is alive and well in Sabah as McDonald’s Malaysia brought the excitement of Kaamatan to life through its community celebration event, Aramai Bersama Mekdi, held at McDonald’s Keningau Drive-Thru.
Known for its rich cultural significance and as a festival of gratitude for the rice harvest, Kaamatan was celebrated by McDonald’s for the first time this year. The event aimed to honour Sabah’s diverse culture, connect with the local community, and foster unity through tradition and togetherness.
“Kaamatan is a meaningful cultural celebration that deserves more visibility. As a Malaysian owned company, we are proud to be part of this meaningful occasion and celebrate alongside the people of Sabah. This is our way of expressing our heartfelt appreciation for their support,” said Dato’ Haji Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner of McDonald’s Malaysia.

Festive Performances, Cultural Vibes and Local Flavours
The celebration was brought to life with energetic performances by local talents such as Ryenald Guntabid, Kumpulan Mansolo, and Kumpulan Atmosfera. Traditional Sabah cultural expressions like the Magunatip bamboo dance, a traditional costume showcase, and karaoke sessions also added to the vibrant atmosphere.
Adding a modern twist to the cultural celebration, the restaurant was decorated in full festive Kaamatan spirit, with fireworks lighting up the night to mark the occasion.

To thanks the community for their warm support, McDonald’s gave away 1,500 sets of Spicy Chicken McDeluxe, a crowd favourite to the early guests, alongside other giveaways including food and beverage vouchers and exclusive activity-based prizes
A Year of Festive Gatherings at McDonald’s
Aramai Bersama Mekdi is part of McDonald’s ongoing community celebration series that brings Malaysians together at selected outlets during major festive seasons. Earlier this year, the brand hosted the Mekdi Chinese New Year Open House in February and the Mekdi Hari Raya Open House in April.
McDonald’s Malaysia also continues its tradition of giving back through its many social responsibility initiatives. The brand regularly celebrates festive occasions with the underprivileged, including senior citizens and orphans at various care homes. These efforts are part of over 10,000 community activities conducted annually across more than 370 outlets nationwide.
McDonald’s Malaysia continues to serve not just meals, but also meaningful moments to communities across the country in celebrating diversity, unity, and the spirit of giving in every festive season.
