Under the direction of new leadership, Sabah PKR will undertake negotiations with Pakatan Harapan’s partners in the state ahead of the upcoming state election.
The chapter’s chairperson Mustapha Sakmud said their goal as Sabahans is to protect and empower the state in order to benefit the people in it.
“In line with the direction of the new leadership and the aspirations of the party, Sabah PKR will strengthen its new course through constructive negotiations with our partners in Sabah Harapan, in order to yield the best outcomes for all,” the Sepanggar MP said in a statement today.
Mustapha, who is also the deputy higher education minister, also reaffirmed PKR’s commitment to unity, progress, and reform.
He said PKR remains determined to contribute positively to Sabah while encouraging cooperation with local and national parties.
Tumultous polls
The recently concluded PKR election was tumultuous, with outgoing Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli losing his position as the deputy president against the president’s daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar.

Former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli and his successor Nurul Izzah AnwarRafizi’s ally, outgoing Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, also lost his vice-presidency.
This led the pair to resign as ministers on Wednesday (May 28), despite Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously saying before the polls that he would not reshuffle the cabinet based on who won or lost.
Rafizi stood firm by his decision, saying it was the principled thing to do.
The Prime Minister’s Office responded to their resignation by saying that Anwar had approved their leave applications, but was silent on whether their resignations were accepted.
Yesterday, Nik Nazmi defended himself and Rafizi against accusations of betraying PKR in a brief post on X.
The post came amid undercurrents within PKR, painting Rafizi and his allies as being disloyal.
This included allegations that several MPs aligned with him would be withdrawing support from Anwar as prime minister. - Mkini
