Meeting Jho Low S Reps Sends Wrong Message Guan Eng Tells Idrus
DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng has called on Attorney-General Idrus Harun to shed more light on the meeting between the latter's office (AGC) and the representatives of fugitive businessperson Jho Low.
Lim especially wants to know why the meeting was allowed to take place.
"Instead of hunting Jho Low down, Idrus should explain why the AGC is willing to meet with Low’s representatives.
"Is Idrus not sending the wrong message that Malaysia’s top law officer is willing to deal with crooks and wanted fugitives instead of steadfastly upholding the law without fear or favour?" he asked in a statement today.
Low had arranged for his lawyers to meet with the AGC and other unnamed government agencies to negotiate a settlement.
Attorney-General Idrus HarunThis is reportedly to repatriate RM1.5 billion in exchange for dropping charges against him.
However, the AGC rejected all offers made.
Low, who is the alleged mastermind of the 1MDB scandal, faces multiple corruption and money laundering charges. He is also wanted in the US.
Will Apandi clarify?
The meeting between Low's lawyers and the AGC had been arranged by former attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali.
Lim took issue with this and also wanted Apandi to clarify his ties with the fugitive businessperson.
Fugitive businessperson Jho Low"Clearly Low continues to exert considerable influence in government circles until he can engage Apandi to act and arrange meetings with the AGC and unnamed government agencies on Low’s behalf.
"Will Apandi clarify his relationship with Low as well as explain the benefits he received from this relationship with Low?" the Bagan MP asked.
Apandi had previously cleared former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak of any wrongdoing in the 1MDB and SRC International cases.
Najib has since been convicted by both the High Court and Court of Appeal on the SRC case, and is still on trial for the 1MDB scandal. - Mkini
