Mco Only 10 Volunteers In Each Selangor Constituency Allowed To Distribute Food To The Needy
PETALING JAYA: The Selangor government has joined the call for non-governmental-organisations (NGOs) and Good Samaritans to stop supplying food to the needy during the movement control order (MCO) period
Selangor public infrastructure and facility, agricultural modernisation and agro-based industry executive councillor Izham Hashim (pic) said he had a meeting Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari over the matter
"We recognised the fact that the government intends to control the number of authorised personnel who can distribute essential items to the public
"As such, the Selangor government has agreed to allow 10 volunteers from each state constituency to register under the National Security Council (NSC) to carry out such activities
"They are to be screened for Covid-19 first before and must adhere strictly to all guidelines pertaining to the MCO," said Izham on Sunday (March 29)
Izham said the move is essential to prevent the unnecessary movement of people who risked exposing themselves to infection
Describing it will be "quite a job" for the state government, Izham assured that reviews are being made from time to time to assure the B40 group – whose livelihoods have been affected by the MCO –are not deprived of food aid
"The state government has distributed some 800 packs of foodstuff worth RM40,000 so far, following a list which was compiled with the help of community leaders
"Knowing that foodstuff can be depleted after one or two days, we have requested for additional budget so that supplies can be replenished," said Izham
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and state Welfare and Caring Society Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh had also reminded NGOs that distributing food to the needy is best left to the trained medical officers, police and army. - Star
