Mcmc Can Remove Insulting Posts Without Reporting

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said a social media post that insulted and disparaged the recently concluded Unduk Ngadau pageant and Kaamatan festival falls under the 3R territory.
"MCMC does not have to wait for a report (to be made) as action can be taken to remove the post as MCMC is allowed to do that, he told the press after a meeting on "Digital Economy, Creative Industry and Communication" at a hotel here.
The technology is for good purposes, but some people abuse it and create misinformation and fake news to disturb other people, which is an offence, he said.
"On the aspect of cyber security, we must act and cooperate with several agencies, especially with the police as it involves the law. However, the perpetrators are very smart nowadays.
"During a meeting in Singapore three days ago, I met with my counterpart. We discussed on cross-border data privacy and this is a complex issue as many countries faced the same problem," he said.
We can take action to strengthen the system and educate the community so that they will not be easily scammed, he said.
"On cyber security, many are unaware, we have intercepted over one billion threats involving security, obscenities, scams and others that are not allowed on social media.
"We are monitoring the situation continuously as Malaysia is ranked no.5 in the world for having an excellent system and ranked no.2 in Asia in terms of cyber security," he said.
On another matter, he said to date, 86.9 per cent of the populated areas in Sabah have been provided with 4G coverage. The installation of communication towers is also progressing according to schedule.
However, the internet speed will be slow if there are many people using in a particular area, the speed will be back to normal if there are fewer users, he said.
The target for the entire country is to reach 96.9 per cent 4G coverage by the end of this year, he said.
For rural areas without coverage under the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA), he said they are studying to implement the broadband satellite in 839 areas.
For the remote pocket areas, they will look at other alternative technology that is available because everyone should get connected under the 12th Malaysia Plan, he said.
