Mca Dissolution Of Barisan Represents An Amicable Solution

PETALING JAYA: The reason why MCA and MIC have opted for a dissolution in Barisan Nasional is because the two component parties want to find an amicable solution for their current grouses on the coalition's political direction, says Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker
The MCA vice president pointed out that the two parties must take into account the bigger picture of the situation rather than choosing to "walk away" from Barisan, a move which he described as "confrontational"
"Dissolution is where there is an amicable solution is made in consensus. Walking away is a confrontation
"Here, we are moving towards an amicable solution based on harmony and unity. A roundtable discussion has to be called," he said.

According to Ti, the current grouses which the two component parties have against Barisan is that the coalition have purportedly deviated from its original spirit and intent of promoting multiculturalism, multilingualism and multi-racialism.

"More so when leaders from component parties displayed clear disrespect for this spirit,
 which is the fundamentals of Barisan when the coalition was formed based on mutual respect, tolerance, unity and harmony."Ti stressed that it's time for all Barisan partners to "go back to basics" and rebrand themselves based on the fundamentals for its formation decades ago
"There is still room for reconciliation. As long as there is discussion," he added
Ti also said there are many people who are pushing for MCA to leave Barisan, as the Chinese community have rejected the party, which was founded in 1949
"But, after racial animosity, we have to be more responsible and not send another racial signal or confrontation
"That is why the resolution from the ground was to work towards dissolution," he said
Recently, MCA and MIC decided to move on from Barisan after a racially-tinged remark by Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz during campaigning in the recently-concluded Semenyih by-election
MCA and MIC's statement said they are left with no choice but to move on from Barisan and explore a new alliance to reflect the true intentions of unity in diversity
Their statement also described Nazri's appointment as Barisan's secretary-general as illegal and not recognised by MCA and MIC
It said the uncalled for racial remarks by Nazri in Semenyih have further damaged the ties between the three founding parties, adding that the continuing silence from Umno has cracked the foundation of mutual respect that Barisan has stood for
However, an unfazed Nazri had on Monday (March 4) fired back at MCA and MIC, saying that the two component parties are free to leave Barisan, as such a move will not be viewed as a loss for the coalition
Nazri, in denying of making any racial statements when campaigning in the Semenyih by-election, added that Barisan is prepared to work with PAS, Makkal Sakti and other parties that share a common vision.- Star
