MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong reaffirmed the party’s commitment to contest in all upcoming state and general elections, stressing the need to win more seats to stay relevant.
Speaking at MCA’s 76th-anniversary celebration, he warned that failing to secure seats for five consecutive years could render the party insignificant.
“With crucial elections in Sabah, Melaka, and Johor approaching, followed by the upcoming general election, I urge all members to focus their time, energy, and resources on preparing for the elections,” he said during the party’s 76th-anniversary celebration at Wisma MCA on Saturday.
Currently holding only two parliamentary and seven state assembly seats, MCA aims to strengthen its role in the Unity Government as a check-and-balance force.
Wee dismissed rumors of tensions with UMNO, emphasising that MCA would continue strategising for the elections without being influenced by political speculation.
Nevertheless, Wee alleged that certain Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties are using the media to pressure MCA into leaving Barisan Nasional (BN) and being excluded from the Unity Government.
He claimed that efforts to discredit MCA and eliminate the party have been ongoing since 2018, aiming to ensure a single party dominates Chinese voter support.
Wee argued that by portraying MCA as a failed party, these groups seek to limit choices for the Chinese community, even if the alternative fails to deliver on its promises.
Despite MCA’s weakened position, holding only two parliamentary and seven state seats, he insisted.
“With this standing, it is clear that MCA is not a threat to anyone,” he said. — Focus Malaysia
