MARANG - Police saw the presence of police, a group of street gangsters who were able to leave their motorcycles before fleeing in three separate raids in the Low Binjai, Kemas and Kelutut Beach areas here yesterday
The first raid was held at 5am at two locations around the Lower Binjai and Mat Kemas area
Marang district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Zain Mat Dris said during the raid, he confiscated three sprint test motorcycles and two men were arrested for further investigation under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987
"In addition, 18 summonses were issued involving various traffic offenses such as unlicensed, side mirrors and vehicle repairs," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian here today
Mohd Zain said during the raid on Kelulut Beach from 6pm to 8pm, 16 motorcycles were seized and 33 summonses were issued for various offenses
He said raids were concentrated in locations that used to be the road for gangsters to test their motorcycle speed by taking various dangerous actions
"The situation is causing concern for other users as it threatens public safety
"This location we see is always their focus as operations are being conducted to reduce the number of street gangs in the area
"We are taking this issue very seriously and action will be taken as this activity will not only endanger our own lives but other road users," he said
During the operation at the three locations, they arrested two street gangsters for inspection, 51 summonses were issued for various offenses while 19 motorcycles were seized including a 'sprint test' motorcycle
Mohd Zain, meanwhile, said he also held a helmet, traffic light and motorcycle op to ensure the people in the area complied with traffic laws
