Six charges were read against T Kerubahkaran, 29, by an interpreter in two separate proceedings before magistrates Sharda Shienha Suleiman and Uthman Ghani, Utusan Malaysia reported.
He was charged before Sharda under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (2020 Amendment) with reckless driving, and under Section 108(1) of the same Act with falsifying the number plate of the Toyota Hilux he drove.
Both offences were allegedly committed around 4.30am on the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin highway in Cheng, Melaka on May 6.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Wan Abdullah Rodzlad, who proposed bail of RM8,000 for the first charge and RM6,000 for the second.
However, Kerubahkaran pleaded for a lower bail amount, saying he had a five-month-old child with a hole in the heart.
Sharda allowed bail of RM4,000 on both charges with one surety, and set June 19 for re-mention of the case and handover of documents.
Before magistrate Uthman, Kerubahkaran was charged with three counts, under Section 379 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code, of stealing cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia Bhd.
He was also charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code with obstructing civil servants from carrying out their duties.
The court allowed bail of RM5,000 on all four charges and set the same date for re-mention of the case.
On May 6, police arrested the 29-year-old man following a dramatic 100km chase from Taman Teknologi Cheng in Melaka to Km216.8 of the North-South Expressway towards Kuala Lumpur. - FMT
