Man Claims Cops Extorted Rm10k From Him Stations Refuse To Accept Report
On Dec 23, Danny Goh was walking to the car park of an apartment complex in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, when four police officers stopped him.
Apart from checking his MyKad, he claimed the officers also demanded to see his mobile phone.
Since Goh worked in the automotive industry, his phone contained records of customers’ MyKad details and this led the officers to accuse him of being a loan shark.
He was also accused of being involved in illegal gambling when his phone search history revealed gambling websites.
When Goh denied the accusations, the officers allegedly threatened him with court charges and imprisonment, demanding RM10,000 in return to settle the matter.
After making an initial bank transfer of RM1,000, he then handed RM9,000 in cash to the officers.
Following this, he sought the assistance of Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng’s assistant Dic Lai, who advised him to lodge a police report.
Lai then contacted the Sentul district police headquarters to verify the identities of the four police officers.
He claimed that when the officers learned of this, the four contacted Goh to settle the case and promised to return the RM10,000.
Lai alleged that when Goh refused to agree to a settlement, the officers went to his residence to return the sum.
Attempts to lodge report
Lai claimed that the Sentul district and Dang Wangi district police headquarters refused to accept Goh’s report since he had recovered the RM10,000.
He added that Goh only managed to lodge a report on his “third attempt” last Thursday.
According to Lai, both Bukit Aman and the Sentul district police headquarters are investigating the matter.
He said Goh was summoned to the Sentul district police headquarters yesterday to identify the officers involved and he managed to pick out three of them.
Malaysiakini has contacted Sentul police chief Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari for comment. - Mkini
