Malaysians Warned Of Crooked Travel Agent If It S Too Good To Be True It S Probably A Scam

THIS seems to be the moral of the story of an alleged scam involving a so-called fly by night travel agency.
According to would-be traveller k (@khaliey_) on X, her bank account is now short of RM43,333 thanks to a travel agent whom she identified as Nor Fadhilah Affendi having absconded with her money.
She recounted how she had paid the sum for a holiday package for seven pax to Switzerland to Nor Fadhilah’s agency, Our Stories Travel Sdn Bhd.
It is alleged the travel agent then “closed shop” after receiving payment without delivering her end of the bargain.
The poster further shared that she has since made the necessary police reports and gotten a decision to re-claim that sum from the Tribunal for Consumer Claims which operates under Malaysia’s Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry but to no avail as the travel agent had simply shut up shop and made herself scant.

Not wanting to give up, the poster vowed to keep looking until she found the culprit which she then located operating from KLCC’s Four Seasons Hotel.

Sharing images of the alleged crooked entrepreneur, the aggrieved traveller urged other consumers to beware and not fall prey to the smartly-dressed lady who did not have a fixed business address but “still roaming around KL and Ampang”.

She went on to highlight that the ultra-cheap Swiss package which amounted to RM5,990 pax was nothing but a scam.

The poster farther revealed her intention to hound the travel agent until all monies are refunded.

The post which has already amassed 2M views at the tine of writing underlined the perils of booking holidays via shadowy agencies which advertise almost unbelievable deals. Claims by other victims highlight that this is not an isolated incident.

However, a few commenters felt that the poster had failed to do due diligence, ie the very fact that a travel agency operates without an office.

This was rebuffed by the poster who argued that she had done all that was necessary, hence it was unfair to blame the victim.

She also outlined that earlier checks on the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and Companies Commission of Malaysia had shown the travel agent to be legit.

Her decision to engage this travel agent was based on previous transactions by acquaintances and prior positive reviews from other users.

Other commenters observed that the ultra-low prices for the Swiss holiday package should have been an obvious red flag.

One enterprising commenter took the opportunity to advertise his own services, highlighting that reputation and longevity in the industry matters.
He, too, highlighted that the price offered by the alleged scam travel agency was too good to be true, especially for a country reported to be the “most expensive in the world”.

While it is hoped this consumer will find an amicable resolution over the issue, the point that was constantly highlighted by various commenters was NOT to fall for the ‘unbelievable discounts’ ploy.
To avoid heartache, it is best to engage trusted agencies with solid reputations.

It would appear that bargain hunters are those who fall prey to such nefarious tactics. Travellers be forewarned! – Sept 25, 2025
