Malaysians Show Their Ugly Side By Littering During The Christmas Celebration

UNLIKE other countries, Malaysia is blessed by our many festive celebrations, thanks to the diverse races living together in this melting pot of culture. Employees have much to rejoice about this.
Employers, not that much unless consumer spending comes alongside the festive season.
And a recent post on X highlights that perhaps, the clean up crew, won’t be in the festive mood to celebrate too since they have much work to do.
Take it from Minister of Housing and Local Government of Malaysia @NgaKorMing who pointed out the mound of garbage leftover from the recent Christmas celebration.
In true Malaysian spirit, the party goers left all their trash sitting on the roadside or littering the walkway. It is going to be a not-so-merry Christmas for those who have to clean the area.
“Please stop littering & don’t embarrass Malaysia. It is already the 21st century, there is no reason for anyone to simply throw rubbish in public places,” said @NgaKorMing in the post among other things.
The post has since received over 203 comments and 929 shares, becoming a place of debate on Malaysians and their behaviour.
According to netizen @amirwazza who followed the post, the authorities should provide more rubbish bins at hotspots during the festive celebration.

“Never saw a single enforcement officer took any action to those who littered there. And how sure are you that Malaysians who did all this?” said a sceptical @JatIkhwan.
Then there was @suzuki1412 pointing out the many high resolution CCTV in the area, hinting that perhaps these litter bugs can be penalised for their behaviour.
Shots were also fired by @ravssb, saying that politicians get away with more.
“It starts with you guys. Set an example and let that breed through our society,” @ravssb added.

Yesterday, the Kuala Lumpur Municipal Council (DBKL) released a statement alongside photos of the scene.

“Cleaning works are also carried out in the city centre to ensure the environment remains clean, orderly and comfortable for everyone. However, there are still some individuals who litter indiscriminately, affecting cleanliness and the city’s image,” said DBKL.
While the public enjoys the festive night atmosphere, the responsibility to maintain cleanliness must remain a priority. Avoid littering, use the bins provided and take care of the shared public spaces, the statement continued.
Responsible behaviour by each individual will have a significant impact on keeping the city clean. — Focus Malaysia
