Mahfuz Harapan Bn Alliance Like Arranged Marriage Not Forced

The alliance between Pakatan Harapan and BN in the government is akin to an arranged marriage, rather than a forced one.
So said Kedah Harapan chairperson Mahfuz Omar, in response to former Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who recently likened the cooperation between the two coalitions to a "forced marriage", where fissures are inevitable.
In fact, the "romance" between the two coalitions at the federal and state levels will bear fruit in the upcoming state elections, he added.
"I am confident that the cooperation between Harapan and BN is not a forced marriage. It's more like a marriage arranged by an elder, which in this case is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
"His Majesty was the one who matched us and God willing, the romance post 'marriage' will get more intimate and bring happiness in the household (country)," Astro Awani quoted the former Pokok Sena MP telling the media after attending a state-level party event in Sungai Petani, Kedah, last night.
Yesterday, Utusan Malaysia reported Ismail Sabri saying that he foresees further friction between Umno and DAP following a war of words between some figures within the two parties.
"A forced marriage will not work. It must be consensual. In a forced marriage, there are no feelings for each other. Thus, there will be fissures.
"This is just the beginning (of the relationship) but there are DAP (people) commenting about Umno and Umno commenting about DAP," he was quoted as saying.
'I'm not the MB candidate'
Meanwhile, on another matter, Mahfuz, who is also Amanah vice-president, said he is not the menteri besar candidate if the Harapan-BN coalition wins the upcoming state polls.
Should he be chosen for the post, someone would be "driven mad", he said, in reference to Kedah MB Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
According to Mahfuz, the state MB candidate issue will only be finalised after seat allocation matters are sorted out in the middle of next month.

"Even now, the person is raving mad, trying to drive a wedge between the Harapan and BN leaderships," Astro Awani quoted him saying.
Although he did not mention names, Mahfuz and Sanusi have constantly been at loggerheads, with Mahfuz recently mulling initiating contempt proceedings against Sanusi over the latter's move to repost a defamatory statement on Facebook.
This followed the Court of Appeal's order to Sanusi to pay damages of RM120,000 to Mahfuz for defaming him by linking him to the transfer of a Sports Toto outlet to Pokok Sena.
Meanwhile, Mahfuz also said that Perikatan Nasional's (PN) decision to put Sanusi as the “poster boy” and retain him as the MB should the coalition win the state in the polls, shows that PN lacks professional and authoritative leaders. - Mkini
