Mahathir Sarcastically Suggests Forming Another New Malay Party

Amid an ongoing rift within Bersatu, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad has mooted the idea of forming yet another Malay-based party
Writing in his blog, Mahathir, who has so far insisted on holding to his position as Bersatu chairperson, sarcastically said the new party would be called "Parti Apa Aku Dapat" (what can I get party) and open to all Malays yet to be rewarded under the Perikatan Nasional government
"Many Malays like to form political parties. I formed Bersatu, but now the party is split into two
"That is why I want to form another Malay political party. The party's name is AAD or 'Apa Aku Dapat'," he said, alluding to claims of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin offering positions to Umno MPs to secure their support
"The intention: To enrich the Malays who have yet to get (any positions)
"The way: By appointing as officers in agencies set-up specifically to fulfil an intention to offer lucrative income to those who have yet to get (any positions) and to those who simply want more," he further said
"Invitation: Whoever yet to obtain (any position) can apply to be a member, president, deputy president, vice-president, etc
"Fees: None," he added
Mahathir's post today came in the wake of speculations over the fate of the PN government, with rumours spreading that Harapan and its allies have supposedly garnered support from more MPs, including those in the government
Mahathir and five others have recently filed a legal challenge against Muhyiddin and three others over what they claimed was their wrongful termination from the party
Muhyiddin has been caught in a controversy after a Facebook page aligned to Mahathir released a series of audio recordings purportedly from a Feb 23 Bersatu Supreme Council meeting
In one of the leaked audio, a man whose voice resembles that of Muhyiddin is heard saying that Umno MPs can be enticed to join Bersatu if they are offered ministerships or positions in a government-linked company (GLC)
As of May 21, Malaysiakini reported that 82.3 percent of PN's 113 MPs have either been appointed to the cabinet, made deputy ministers, joined GLC boardrooms or have been appointed as special diplomats. - Mkini
