Macc To Meet Tiong Chinese National Tomorrow
The MACC will hold a meeting with Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing tomorrow over corruption allegations he made against immigration officers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki reportedly said the Chinese national, who was detained by allegedly corrupt authorities, will also attend the meeting.
He pointed out the anti-graft agency will only be able to establish the truth of the allegations after such a meeting which will aid its investigation.
"It is certain that information alleging corrupt practices has been exposed through media reports, so the MACC needs to obtain relevant information for the investigation.
"We will hold a meeting with both individuals concerned because we do not want anyone to take advantage of this situation.
"We hope everyone will be patient, and if there is truth to what has been revealed, we will take action in accordance with the MACC’s laws," Azam (above) said, as quoted by Utusan.
Yesterday, the MACC chief revealed that his agency had initiated an investigation into Tiong’s allegations and urged the public to refrain from making speculations.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King SingOn Friday (June 30), Tiong was accused of breaching security protocols at KLIA and abusing his position when he allegedly forced his way past immigration counters to “rescue” a tourist under detention on Thursday.
The minister admitted his actions and said his “rescue” of the tourist exposed corruption among officials in KLIA and that the Chinese national was not the first to receive such treatment when arriving in Malaysia. - Mkini
