Macc Summons Another Son Of Dr M Now It S Mokhzani
Another son of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Mokhzani has been summoned by MACC today.
According to a report by Berita Harian, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki has confirmed the matter.
This comes a week after Mahathir’s eldest son, Mirzan was questioned by the anti-graft agency on Jan 17.
Mirzan was ordered to declare all his assets in Malaysia and abroad within 30 days. The investigation on Mirzan is still ongoing.
According to the Malay daily, Mokhzani (above) arrived at the MACC headquarters at approximately 11am today.
The probe on Mokhzani, who is also a businessperson, is believed to be related to a property declaration notice.
MACC chief commissioner Azam BakiMokhzani is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing and Proceeds from Illegal Activities Act 2001 (Amlatfpuaa 2001).
On Monday (Jan 22), Mahathir lambasted the government for pressing Mirzan for evidence of the two-time prime minister’s alleged misconduct.
“The government has access to everything. You can investigate that. (Prime Minister) Anwar (Ibrahim) said he had boxes of evidence. Well, show them to me, the money he said I have stolen. Where is the evidence?
“Instead, my son (Mirzan) was pressed to give evidence so I can be charged. My son is being investigated and threatened and I am threatened, because I have so-called done something wrong.”
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir MohamadIn a separate report yesterday, Berita Harian also reported that several individuals are expected to receive declaration notices in accordance with Section 36(1) of the MACC Act soon.
Azam was also cited as confirming the matter, saying a few individuals will receive a notice for further investigation by the agency.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday (Jan 23), the wife of embattled tycoon Daim Zainuddin was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court for failing to abide by a MACC notice to disclose her assets.
Na'imah Abdul Khalid was charged under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009. She has since claimed trial.
The 66-year-old was alleged to have committed the offence by giving a sworn written statement that did not comply with the MACC notice under Section 36(1) of the MACC Act.
Accused of committing the offence between Dec 13 and 14 last year, she may be jailed for up to five years and may be fined up to RM100,000.
Among the assets that she allegedly did not disclose involve multiple lands, properties and Mercedes Benz vehicles.
According to the annexure attached to the charge and read out in court, among the eight properties allegedly involved are Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur, a house in Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur, as well as six plots of land – five in Kuala Lumpur and one in Penang.
Among other alleged items involved in the non-disclosure are concerning two companies, namely Ilham Tower Sdn Bhd and Ilham Baru Sdn Bhd.
‘Does MACC need nasi lemak, coffee receipts too?’
In a post on X today, Mahathir sarcastically said the “Tuns” who are being investigated by Anwar’s administration “should have kept their nasi lemak and coffee receipts for the last 42 years”.
“They, their children, their wives will be found guilty for failing to declare all their assets from 42 years ago within 30 days.
“They failed because they could not produce receipts for the purchase of nasi lemak and coffee over the past 42 years. All Malaysians have valid proof when they eat nasi lemak.
"Why didn't the Tuns keep their receipts for all their expenses over the last 42 years? Why, after being given 30 days, did they not comply with the notice from the MACC?" he asked.
The nonagenarian also criticised MACC, accusing the anti-graft body of only acting on Anwar’s orders.
“As a government that upholds the rule of law, they (the Tuns) can be imprisoned for up to five years and be fined RM100,000.
"Of course, any evidence of wrongdoing isn't important. (Just) the PMX's (Anwar) accusations suffice. That's how responsible the MACC is,” he alleged.
Making another snide remark, Mahathir said “Anwar’s government will succeed in combating corruption, if all the Tuns were put behind bars”. - Mkini
