(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: Senior Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader Dr Sim Kui Hian has cast doubt on the loyalty of former Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) members who have joined fellow GPS component, the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
Sim, the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president, said the loyalty of the new PDP members remains to be seen.
“Actions speak louder (than words),” he said, according to The Borneo Post after celebrating the 65th anniversary of SUPP in Kuching, Sarawak, today.
Sim, a Sarawak deputy premier, reminded SUPP members that loyal partnerships between GPS components were essential to usher the state into a new era of growth.
“I hope everyone realises that Sarawak is successful today because we have come together as a strong and stable GPS government and a strong SUPP.
“This is very important because we have big things to do at the moment,” he said.
In April, PSB leaders and members joined the PDP en bloc, with former PSB president Wong Soon Koh made a PDP senior vice-president.
PDP is led by Tiong King Sing, who is also the federal tourism, arts and culture minister, while Wong was formerly of SUPP until his sacking from the party in 2014.
PDP and SUPP have been in a tit-for-tat over the Bawang Assan state seat which Wong has represented since 1991, but SUPP contends it is its traditional seat.
Last week, Tiong reportedly proposed that GPS get rid of “legacy seats” though he later said his remarks were misinterpreted by the media and political leaders.
His purported proposal was criticised by senior GPS leader Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who said PDP must prepare to contest against GPS allies in future elections if Tiong really did not believe in the relevance of traditional seats. - FMT
