These athletes, including squash queen Nicol David, will promote use of the My100 and My50 monthly travel passes.KUALA LUMPUR: From Jan 1, Malaysians will be able to enjoy unlimited travel using various modes of public transport under Prasarana Malaysia Berhad with the My100 and My50 monthly passes
Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook said the unlimited travel pass is to encourage more Malaysians to use public transport and reduce their monthly cost of living
“For RM100, the My100 pass can be used for all of Prasarana’s rapid rail and bus services within Klang Valley
“We understand that some only require to travel by bus to get to work every day
“So, for RM50, the My50 pass allows this group to use all of Prasarana’s bus services within Klang Valley,” he said
The service encompasses the use of MRT, LRT, Monorail, BRT Sunway, RapidKL buses and MRT transit buses
Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook.Speaking at the launch of the My100 and My50 unlimited travel pass by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Loke said the pass can be obtained from today and can be used from Jan 1, 2019
The pass was announced during the tabling of Budget 2019 in Parliament last month
The service is exclusively for Malaysians as the pass requires users to bring their MyKad to any RapidKL counter to activate the pass
Upon activation, the MyKad will act as an unlimited pass and can be topped up at any Touch n Go outlet
“The introduction price is reasonable as we want more people to use public transport every day,” he said
Loke said the initiative was started in Klang Valley as a huge number of people from across the country have migrated to work in the city centre
It may be expanded to nationwide later
10 national athletes to promote passesRather than celebrities, Loke said he had proposed 10 athletes as the product ambassadors to promote the passes
“These icons have huge followers on social media, some even more than ministers
“If they post something, it will reach hundreds of thousands of people. So we need their help in creating awareness on these passes,” he said
The 10 chosen are squash queen Nicol David, diver Cheong Jun Hoong, paralympic sprinter Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi, gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, badminton’s Goh Liu Ying, bowling’s Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi, diver Leong Mun Yee, karate’s Syakilla Salni Jefry Krisnan, swimmer Welson Sim Wee Sheng and ice skater Julian Yee Zhi-Jie. - FMT
