Loke Fumes Over Absence From Parliament Wee Responds Relax Bro
Former transport minister Anthony Loke censured his successor Wee Ka Siong for not being present in the Dewan Rakyat to answer a question on the automated driving test system.
"Is the minister busy campaigning in Johor (where a state election will be held on Saturday) until he forgets about his real task of answering questions in the House?
“The minister is playing truant," charged the DAP lawmaker.
The Seremban MP said he had campaigned in Johor as well but returned to Kuala Lumpur at 2am this morning to attend the sitting.
“The secretary of the Dewan Rakyat reminded me to come early.
“It is the responsibility of MPs (to attend). It is the minister's responsibility to answer questions in Parliament too,” he added when posting an additional question to Wee's deputy, Henry Sum Agong.
Describing Loke's remarks as a political matter, Henry refused to respond beyond saying that Wee had an important commitment.
"Yes, commitment in Yong Peng," retorted Loke in reference to MCA seeking to wrest the state seat from DAP in the coming polls.
Taking to Facebook later, Wee explained the reason for his absence and called on his political nemesis to calm down.
The MCA president said he visited a village in Johor Bahru to check the latest development of the Gemas-Johor Baru double-tracking project as well as drainage issues blamed for flash floods.
“The matter was brought to my attention by former minister Shahrir Abdul Samad and I promised to make a site visit to find a solution to the flash floods.
"I heard that Loke slammed me in the Dewan Rakyat because his question on e-testing was answered by the deputy minister.
"Today is not the minister's question time but a normal oral question-and-answer session where the answer can be given by the deputy minister according to the standing orders.
“What is there to be disputed? I have scrutinised the answer and my deputy can answer the question raised,” he added.
The MCA president reiterated that he went to Johor Bahru to address a problem concerning the people.
"I had to attend to official duties involving a project under the jurisdiction of the ministry that needs immediate attention.
“I went to the ground to resolve the people's problems. Relax bro," he added. - Mkini
