Localised Stop Work Order Issued For Penang Bypass Road

State infrastructure committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the order is localised and applies only to the work that is being carried out on the hill.
Zairil said the affected area is from the Kingfisher Apartment to Jalan Tembaga.
“The stop work order issued by the city council (Penang Island City Council) only applies to a localised area due to work being done (there) that was not related to the planned mitigation efforts (for soil works),” he said when contacted.
This comes amid protests from Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan yesterday about construction on the bypass road spanning Bukit Batu Lanchang and Bukit Hijau.
Tan claimed that construction in the area continued into the early hours of the morning and was carried out during weekends and public holidays, which caused significant disturbance to residents in the area.
The 5km Air Itam-Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway bypass will connect Air Itam and a coastal highway in the east of the island.
The RM851 million project is part of the larger RM6.3 billion undersea tunnel and three main roads project.
The bypass road will have four interchanges – at Lebuhraya Thean Teik, Jalan Bukit Gambier, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah and Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway (George Town-bound).
Work is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year.  - FMT
