Local Issues Matter More Than Spelling Errors Pn Candidate
STATE POLLS | Paying attention to local issues is more important than spelling errors in campaigning material.
So said Perikatan Nasional's Pandamaran state seat candidate B Gunalan, in reply to his Pakatan Harapan counterpart Tony Leong poking fun at errors in Mandarin texts on PN's election brochure.
"Leong has to fix himself before finding fault with others. While he's busy finding fault with others, I would like to remind him of the issues faced by the locals.
"Although he has been an assemblyperson here for more than five years, there are still problems with floods, garbage collection, untended grass and bushes, and broken infrastructure," he said.
"Quit finding fault with others, and focus on yourself first," Gunalan (above) told Malaysiakini.
Incumbent Pandamaran rep Tony LeongLeong, who is the Pandamaran representative since 2018, will be defending the seat against Gunalan and Parti Rakyat Malaysia's Tan Kang Yap, this Saturday.
Uphill task
Earlier, Leong uploaded to social media, the brochure containing the said spelling error, to poke fun at Gunalan.
In reply, Gunalan asked what Leong had done to address the recurring flash flood issue that has been plaguing the constituency, causing thousands of ringgit in losses.
"The six-foot deep drains here are completely covered in grass and bushes. Such issue would not happen if the parties responsible performed their roles well."
PN's Pandamaran state seat candidate B GunalanGunalan, who is a former Kuala Langat councillor, acknowledged the uphill task he faced in competing against Leong.
"I realise that he (Leong) could win with a huge majority. But judging by the situation in the constituency, I will let the voters judge for themselves if the pledges made have been fulfilled.
Leong won the Pandamaran state seat in the 2018 election, with 41,552 votes, edging contenders from BN and Ikatan with a more than 35,000-vote majority. - Mkini
