Liew Backs Mustapha Sakmud To Be Sabah Pkr Chief
Former Sabah PKR chief Christina Liew said Mustapha Sakmud also has the support of Sabah PKR divisional leaders.PETALING JAYA: Sabah Pakatan Harapan chief Christina Liew has given Sepanggar MP Mustapha Sakmud her backing to become the next head of Sabah PKR.Liew cited Mustapha’s credentials as the federal deputy higher education minister and said he also had the support of Sabah PKR divisional leaders, making him the right fit to take over the post from Sangkar Rasam.
However, Liew said she will let party leader Anwar Ibrahim make the final call with the PKR president set to visit Sabah on April 20 to resolve the leadership crisis.
According to The Borneo Post, she maintained that all division heads will continue to work as a team regardless of Anwar’s decision.
“As I said last time, PKR will not break. People are joining and leaving the party but I remain loyal to PKR. Whoever gets the chairman’s post, we will work together,” said Liew, who was Sabah PKR chief for nearly 20 years.
She said she had no plan to return to the post but would continue to support and help the party.
It was reported that Anwar is expected to decide between retaining Sangkar as Sabah PKR chief or opting for Mustapha, who had offered to lead the party’s campaign for the next state election.
On March 17, Kota Marudu PKR division chief Sazalye Donol said 15 out of 26 Sabah division chiefs had called for Sangkar to step down as state chairman, walking out of a state leadership meeting after expressing their unhappiness with his leadership.
Liew was among the 15 division chiefs who had signed statutory declarations in hopes of ousting Sangkar.
Sangkar dismissed claims he was not leading the state chapter effectively and had failed to organise programmes to strengthen it, calling the allegations “groundless”. - FMT
