Asia-Wide LEGOLAND School Challenge
Creativity Shines as over 3,700 Students Participate in the “World of Fantasy” Challenge


At its prize-giving ceremony today, LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort celebrated the completion of the LEGOLAND School Challenge 2024 and recognized 16 winning school groups for their exceptional LEGO® creations.
Extending its reach to schools across Asia for the first time, the much awaited annual challenge's third year was well received and built upon the tremendous success of the two years prior. With over 3,700 kids from all over the region participating, the competition set a new record for participation. There were 554 submissions in all, which is 50% more than the year before. Specifically, the competition attracted attention from throughout the world since three new nations—China, Thailand, and Laos—submitted entries.
This year, 50 LEGO sets were supplied to Malaysian schools that might not have otherwise been able to take part by LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort in partnership with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri (JPN). More pupils were given the confidence to participate in the challenge and realize their creative ambitions thanks to the Ministry's assistance in locating and contacting these institutions.

These efforts to expand the challenge to reach diverse and international backgrounds further amplified the cross-cultural potential set by the theme for this year's challenge, "World of Fantasy”. From fantastical and colourful landscapes to dazzling mythical creatures, the young builders weaved immersive storylines in their LEGO creations inspired by global and local folklore.
The 16 best LEGO creations stood out from the rest. They displayed a wealth of creativity, imagination, innovation, and technical skill that impressed the panel of judges, who comprised expert LEGO builders, designers, and dedicated lifelong fans. This year saw a high level of international participation, making the competition tougher than ever. Notably, the winning teams, all from Malaysia, rose above the strong 1111international field with their truly outstanding and remarkable builds.

The 16 winning teams were awarded a collective prize pool worth RM100,000+, including iconic LEGO trophies, LEGO Play Sets, and the opportunity to attend an exclusive LEGO Building Workshop with a LEGO Expert Model Builder. This special workshop allowed all winners to learn directly from the masters, honing their creativity and LEGO-building skills. 
“Being part of the LEGOLAND School Challenge has been one of the best experiences for me. I’ve loved LEGOLAND since I was a SEA LIFE Junior Ranger at the age of 10, and getting to participate in this challenge three years in a row has been incredible. It’s not just about building LEGO creations—it’s about having fun, meeting new friends, and challenging myself. I’ve gone from following instructions to creating my own designs, which has been awesomes. This challenge has made me realize that I want to do something creative in the future, like maybe even become a LEGOLAND Master Model Builder! The coveted Book of Inarys holds the key to the realm's life force, essential for your Earthly mission. To reach it, you must gather hidden rubies scattered across Inarys to satisfy Kelembai, the maze dragon guarding the book. Failure risks petrification. Amidst chaos from dark forces invading, you join forces with the elves, mages, and shinobis. Together, you navigate the maze, discovering the essence of green hydrogen within the ancient time. Returning victorious, you merge scientific prowess with magic, envisioning a sustainable future for both Earth and Inarys through this newfound energy source.

Description: ELDORIA
The LEGO build is portraying a fantasy world of Eldoria, where two lands are starkly contrasting in nature. To the east lay Luminara, a land of perpetual light and goodness with green fields and pure rivers. To the west lay Umbra, shrouded in darkness and evil, with barren ground and dirty water. Prince Aeron of Luminara is trying to save Princess Sophea by boat. She has been captured by a fearsome dragon with the body of a snake and wings, Serpenthar, a monstrous creature that lives in the Hill of Evil where two treasure boxes are located.

Description: HIKAYAT CYBERBLOOMS
Enveloped in the ancient tales of local folklore, a young adventurer was whisked away to the enchanting realm of Hikayat Cyberblooms. To return home, she embarked on a quest to uncover eight elusive rubies hidden in mystical locations. Bestowed with a magical map by the guardian dragon atop the towering mountaintop, she ventured forth discovering a world of valiant warriors, graceful princesses, mischievous tricksters, and awe-inspiring mythical creatures. She emerged victorious, returning to her own world with newfound wisdom and enlightenment. As she departed, Hikayat Cyberblooms brimmed with anticipation for the next daring soul to embark on its mesmerizing adventure.

Description: THE WORLD ON TERRANOS
Introducing “The World on Terranos,” an amazing LEGO creation! Terranos is a giant turtle with a magical village on its back. There’s a huge Enchanted in the middle that makes the turtle move. Above, a floating house features a friendly ghost that pops out and a fierce dragon standing guard. The village sits on a LEGO blue base to mimic the sea, complete with sharks and hidden treasures. 
The creation features moving parts, like the tree turning to make the turtle’s flippers and head move, showcasing mechanical engineering principles. The ghost pops in and out when wound, demonstrating simple machine concepts. A waterfall cascades from the floating house, adding to the fantasy. This MOC demonstrates fantastical storytelling, cultural fusion, and innovative use of STEM concepts.

Fantasy was a peaceful village, nestled by the sparkling, azure sea. The Fantalians had lived there harmoniously for many generations. Life was filled with hope, joy and also hot air balloons!
The Heart of Fantasy lies in the sacred, floating Great Sky Garden. The Fantalians had sworn to protect it from any harm.
One silent night, a shimmering light appeared in the sky. Oh no, aliens have invaded! They were after the Heart!
Master Iguana and Wise Butterfly led the elderly and children to safety. They hid in the underwater city behind Crystal Flows, the majestic waterfalls. The Fantalian warriors harnessed their magical powers and fought off the aliens. The precious Fantasy was once again saved by the brave Fantalians!

Description: MULTIVERSE GIGANTREE
Mahsuri was slandered and killed at a tree in Langkawi. Instead of dying, she found herself at the Multiverse Gigantree, half whimsical in Aurora Land, and half dark and barren in Nocturna Land.
Mahsuri wandered through the Nureal Portal, past the Leyley Veins, and floated up the sparkling Wahida Cascade waterfall. She explored the Sofifi Treehouse and down the rainbow stairs leading into the dark forest.
There, an ice dragon and a three-faced owl, guarded a misty creepy mansion. She slipped past the creatures, and met Aludracadabra Witch. Mahsuri drank the witch’s potion, and was transported out to an unknown place till today.

Description: PUTERI DANG PELANGI
This is the fantasy world of Puteri Dang Pelangi, the daughter of Puteri Gunung Ledang and BimaSakti. They live on top of the majestic Gunung Pelangi, a floating mountain with a glistening river cascading down beneath. The mountain is surrounded by a beautiful garden filled with rainbow blossoms.
The garden is Pelangi's playground. She likes to explore and run around with her loyal bestfriends JagaJaga Cinta and Burung Rajawali. Her favourite place in the whole world is the swing hanging down Pokok Kembang Pagi, a tree her parents planted on her birthday
Pelangi is truly slaying her Princess life! Smazzing!!

Our creation embraces the theme through a unique split-scale build, inspired by the east and west, offering a captivating blend of cultural aesthetics. The left features intricate minifigure scale scenes, while the right showcases minilander scale designs. This imaginative landscape explores the enchanting fusion of diverse architectural influences while still maintaining a fantastical atmosphere. Get a taste of both – be big or small by crossing the bridge of harmony, centered by the mesmerizing waterfall that harmoniously unites both worlds. Protected by a group of very special guardians ensuring successful crossovers between both universe to maintain peace, balance and harmony.

Description: LUMINARA
In a burst of creativity, we constructed the Lost City of Luminara entirely from LEGO! This magnificent underwater city features an awe-inspiring white tower with a radiant gem, surrounded by beautiful corals. We also included a LEGO motor-powered 'Leviathray', adding a dynamic touch. The city is guarded by the mighty Poseidon, who battles dark forces threatening its splendor. With intricate details, mythical creatures, and a touch of humor, our LEGO Luminara even includes a sneaky Among Us crewmate hiding among the corals! This build captures the magic and mystery of a forgotten world, blending adventure with a playful twist.

Description: ARCANE DRASILL
Arcane Drasill brings Norse mythology to life by connecting nine mythical worlds with a giant tree. It symbolizes life, growth, and connection. Imagining the nine realms—Asgard, Midgard, Muspelheim, Niflheim, and more—promotes creative thinking and cultural appreciation.
Building this grand tree with its sprawling roots and tall branches encourages teamwork and communication. Adding mythical creatures like dragons and eagles, and designing characters, helps develop empathy and understanding of different cultures.

Description: ECOTOPIA
Ecotopia exemplifies a sustainable future, inspiring generations to come. 5 powerful mages rule them. Created with the combinations and modifications of parts taken from LEGO Dungeon & Dragons, Medieval 3 in 1 LEGO Creator Sets, topped up with LEGO loose bricks and blocks. Each tree, flower, carrot, and water irrigation were created from loose bricks based on their creativity. Inside, homes and towns are inspired by eco-friendly concepts. Solar panels, made from blue plates and clear slopes, adorn rooftops, harnessing clean energy. The main gate features a drawbridge powered by chain pieces and technic gears. Not forgetting the usage of LED lights, motors, water pump, mist maker and Mircobit motor revo to make Ecotopia come alive.

Let’s venture into the world of dragons and mystics driven to experience a floating island adorned with a tree emanating mystical energy, overlooking a tornadic waterspout below. Adjacent to it is an erupting volcano that houses a fire-breathing dragon, the antagonist of the ice-breathing
dragon. Nearby, a village with a fishing dock sits beside the waterfall and flows down to a small gulf, which eventually feeds into the main lake. Within this village, a sword is embedded in the ground and can only be wielded by the chosen one, Julias. Across the waterfall lies a frosty bioluminescent forest that serves as a habitat for the floral kingdoms of nature. Welcome to Moxem Valley.

Description: ELEMENTIA
In Elementia, tensions rise among the Scorchwraith, Watershire, and Ironhide tribes after their ruler's demise. Each sends their champion on a quest to defeat Deathmaw, the World Ender, and claim leadership.
Atalantia, has a grand castle adorned with Watershire-inspired designs, stands amidst shimmering waterfalls and rocky structures. Arian Tide of Watershire commands serpent Tidalis amidst flowing waters and iridescent scales.
Firehelm, contains portals to other dimensions amidst its volcanic landscape, is home to Torvald Bane of Scorchwraith, aided by the fiery pyro-ghul amidst volcanic forges and mysterious cave.
Mosswoodland, a serene domain where people farm and worship Gollem, sees Thane Bowen of Ironhide stand amidst fortified lands and ancient huts. Our model is crafted with EV3 Mindstorm technology, motors, and a color sensor.

In a mystical realm, four nations embody the elements; Water, Fire, Earth, and Nature. The Water Nation is symbolised by a spinning fish in the ocean, while Fire boasts an erupting volcano guarded by a vigilant gecko. Earth Nation endures the constant threat of landslides, and Nature flourishes with butterflies atop a giant tree. At the heart of this world, an electric power plant was embedded to ensure harmony and balance among the nations, monitoring and maintaining their delicate equilibrium.
STEM elements are implemented in four main elements spinning fish an erupting volcano landslides power plant acting as source of energy.

Our journey to Atlantis takes us to an enchanting underwater world where nature and human innovation thrive together. Imagine schools of fish swimming through clear waters and vibrant coral gardens decorating the seascape.
At the heart of Atlantis stands a grand monument with intricate carvings and precious stones, telling stories of ancient glory. A massive flower made of a glowing material lights up the ocean depths.
Exploring further, we find an underwater cave with a shipwreck, a silent echo of past adventures. Nearby lies a grand submarine, showcasing Atlantean engineering and adventurous spirit.
Guarding this realm are majestic sharks, the true rulers of Atlantis, embodying the ocean's beauty and power. The Underwater Atlantis City combines technology, magic, and heritage, reminding us of the wonders and limitless possibilities of this mythical city.
