Lawyer Vows Legal Service To Assaulted Worker Pans Father S Behaviour
A lawyer has come forward to offer free legal services to a migrant worker who was assaulted by a man after being accused of molesting the latter’s daughter.
ADSCounsel Asiah Abd Jalil said she had tried contacting the migrant worker’s employer for details but failed.
“If anyone can reach out to the worker, tell him I’m willing to represent him pro bono,” she said on Facebook today.
Hurling brickbats at the father, known as Bro Man, Asiah said he should have kept his emotions in check, adding that it was not the way a father should protect a child.
“And the public should not support this whimsically. Just because the matter went viral, doesn’t it mean the person who made it viral is right.
“Remember, behind every viral story, there is a plot twist,” she added.
Yesterday, the father, known as Bro Man, took to Facebook and admitted to confronting the Bangladeshi man and even assaulting him out of anger.
Subsequently, he took the migrant worker to the Kajang police station but lamented that the case was not pursued further despite a police report lodged on March 12.
“It’s sad that the investigation could not continue as the CCTV at the store was faulty. No remand, no probe. It went cold.
“That’s why I allowed the video to go viral to ensure the public remains vigilant against such people.
“And yesterday, to my surprise, the case was classified as NFA. Instead, now I’m being investigated for assaulting the Bangladeshi and posting the video.
“But I told the investigating officer, if this is the price I have to pay for protecting my daughter, no problem… I will face it,” Bro Man said, adding that he had been summoned to the Shah Alam Criminal Investigation Department today for questioning.
Not a legitimate confession
ADSAsiah said the viral video clearly showed the Bangladeshi worker was so fearful that he just nodded his head to whatever was being said by the accuser.
“That is not a legitimate confession, and I will not back the father who went overboard.
“And I don’t like people who oppress migrants,” she added.
On the allegations, Asiah noted that the Bro Man’s daughter, aged nine, alleged she was molested on Feb 27 at a convenience store but told her father about it on March 11.
Asiah also claimed that the child could not pinpoint the exact perpetrator, as there are many migrant workers there.
“However, the father saw it fit to go to the store and accuse one person in haste. Not only was the worker slapped, but he also fell to the ground after being kicked in the groin.
“When the police investigated the matter, they could not find witnesses to corroborate the molestation allegations, the child could not identify her alleged assailant, and there was no evidence to show that the man assaulted was the perpetrator. That’s why there was neither an arrest nor prosecution,” she added.
Investigation ongoing
On claims that a child's testimony is enough for charges to be made under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792), Asiah said it is true, provided the child’s testimony is unusually convincing.
“But if the child cannot identify the alleged perpetrator, how are the police to rely on the former’s statement?” she asked.

Earlier, Kajang district police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof dismissed claims that the police had classified the alleged molestation case as no further action, adding that no charges had been filed against the father either.
“The investigation is ongoing,” he said.
Bersatu MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad had promised to support Bro Man with legal services over his ordeal.
