Lawyer Urges Police Probe On Leaked Solicitor General S Letter
RSN Rayer. (Bernama pic)GEORGE TOWN: Lawyer RSN Rayer has urged the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to lodge a police report over leaks of an internal memo written by Solicitor-General III Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria
The circular written to public prosecutors stated that all trials, involving 1MDB and SRC International are to go according to schedule and any attempt to delay the cases should be objected to
“This leak has led to a public perception that the impartiality and professionalism of the AGC have been compromised. Hence, such leaks should never happen again
“I must state that immediate investigations must be launched to find out if there are any ‘black sheep’ in the AGC still beholden and loyal to the previous BN administration, and to weed them out once and for all,” said Rayer
Rayer stressed on the severity of the matter and also said he will lodge the police report if no party steps up, because he wants to protect and preserve the dignity of the AGC under the present government
Hanafiah had earlier expressed surprise on how the circular had gone outside the AGC’s circles
He explained it was in his prerogative as a solicitor-general in charge of prosecution to inform the deputy public prosecutors of the government’s directive to expedite cases linked to the former administration
It was also consistent, he said, with the Criminal Procedure Code which stipulates that any “trial shall commence not later than 90 days from the date of the accused being charged”. - FMT
