Late Rep S Son Lodges Report Over Pn Using Dad S Football Academy
AYER KUNING POLLS | The son of former Ayer Kuning assemblyperson the late Ishsam Shahruddin filed a police report against Perikatan Nasional, accusing the coalition of misusing his father’s football academy.
Claiming that PN is attempting to confuse voters amid the ongoing by-election for the Perak state seat, Isnabil Ishsam said his father’s Akademi Bola Sepak YB Haji Ishsam (Aybi FC) was used by the coalition to promote its friendly football match scheduled for tomorrow evening.
Isnabil said he and his family were only made aware of PN’s use of the football academy’s name on posters of the match when a friend notified him of the matter recently.
“We were not informed about the use of Aybi FC’s name. When I checked (the posters), I found that (the academy) really was featured.
“However, after we voiced out, they (organisers) suddenly edited the poster, (removing Aybi FC and including) ‘Yus Tapah’, who is my late father’s secretary within Aybi FC,” Isnabil said during a press conference at the Tapah Umno headquarters.

The late Ayer Kuning assemblyperson Ishsam ShahruddinNoting that his police report was filed earlier at the Tapah district police headquarters, Isnabil called for the disputed posters to be removed as they wrongly associated his late father, who was the Tapah Umno chief, with a PN-organised event.
He also said he had not contacted any PN representative to urge them to take down the posters, instead deciding to escalate the matter directly to the police.
Isnabil stressed that his father had nothing to do with PN as he “always prioritised his efforts with BN”.
Not the first complaint
This is not the first time PN has been accused of misusing Umno-linked images in its campaign material.
Earlier, the coalition courted backlash after a BN member’s wife lodged a police report claiming her husband’s image was used in PN’s posters without his consent.
The individual in question was said to hold a position at BN’s Temoh Stesen polling centre.
Responding to the complaint, PN’s Ayer Kuning candidate Abd Muhaimin Malek said since he is a candidate for all, he would prefer not to make enemies and is open to making friends with everyone.
The Ayer Kuning by-election was called following Ishsam’s death on Feb 22 from a heart attack.
Voters are set to head to the polls on April 26, with PN fielding Muhaimin, who is its Tapah chief, while BN has opted to put forth Tapah Umno secretary Yusri Bakir.
