Kudos Zahid And Bn Rakyat Must Punish Gang 13
BUDGET 2021 was approved at the policy stage at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday against the attempt of some Opposition MPs to have a bloc vote. Surprisingly, all DAP and PKR representatives vote in support, a grand victory for the razor-thin majority Perikatan Nasional government.
With two demands being approved by the Finance Minister, namely the extension of moratorium and a ceiling withdrawal of RM10,000 for everybody, Barisan Nasional has again emerged as the champion of the masses for these two prorities.
Kudos should go to Umno President and BN Chairman Zahid Hamidi and ex-Prime Minister Najib Razak for being consistent in their request for the two major elements, deemed as the most needed by the Malaysians. The finance minister too deserves hats off for listening to the two.
The King has lauded the Budget approval as the rakyat victory. In a statement, he said the rakyat needs proper attention during this difficult time of pandemic Covid-19 effects.
I wonder why Dr Mahathir, his son Mukhriz, Khaled Samad and the other ten wanted to derail the Budget which has taken into consideration many aspects of the national and people's economic survival. In my opinion, why not they just support the Budget and let other matters come later.\
However, the rakyat can start to realize what those 'Group 13' is all about and kick them out in the next general election.
While PM Muhyiddin Yassin said the Budget approval reflects the maturity of the MPs, some analysts are of the opinion that despite the victory, he is not out of the woods yet. With the number of seats at 111, thus putting the government dangling on the line, he is expected to face more challenges in the next one or two months.
I can't figure out how his Cabinet is manageable. I am also of the believe that DAP and PKR voted for the Budget as they heeded the King's call for 'Budget approval' and for all politicians to put behind all bickering for the sake of the nation and people. Zahid too has offered a political ceasefire, hindering Muhyiddin from further pressure to step down.
The embattled prime minister survived the crucial test when his Budget was approved, a much-needed boost for his crisis-wracked, nine-month-old government. His administration would almost certainly have collapsed, prompting general elections, if lawmakers failed to back the budget in parliament.
The 2021 spending plan – which focuses on fighting the coronavirus pandemic – was passed by voice vote. At 322.5 billion ringgit, it is the biggest-ever budget. While his government has only a wafer-thin majority in Parliament, lawmakers are keen to avoid forcing a general election as the country battles COVID-19.
By supporting the budget, lawmakers showed they are focused on addressing the coronavirus pandemic and spurring rapid economic recovery. There will be further votes on the Budget.
The result is a boost for Muhyiddin. He had said the move was to help the virus fight but critics lambasted it as a bid to cling to power and avoid a showdown over the Budget.
However, one episode is over. There will be more to come...
