DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said the reports by the Council of Eminent Persons secretariat and the Institutional Reforms Committee should be tabled as white papers in Parliament.PETALING JAYA: DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has called for the report prepared by the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) secretariat to be tabled in Parliament.
Lim said he was shocked that former CEP member Jomo Kwame Sundaram yesterday said there was no report on the entire CEP, which was formed immediately after Pakatan Harapan came to power in the 2018 general election.
Instead, Jomo said, a report was prepared by the secretariat under CEP chairman and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin.
In a statement this morning, Lim said he had all along been under the impression the CEP had produced a report.
“When Mahathir (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) was prime minister the second time, I had urged him to make the CEP report public.
“Nevertheless, I reiterate my call for the CEP secretariat’s report to be tabled as a white paper in Parliament before it adjourns on April 4.”
Besides Jomo and Daim, the other members of the CEP were former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Petronas president and CEO Hassan Marican and corporate tycoon Robert Kuok.
The CEP was dismantled after PH’s first 100 days in government.
Lim also called for the Institutional Reforms Committee’s (IRC) 2018 report, aimed at studying proposed institutional reforms that had been identified by the then PH government, to be tabled in Parliament as a white paper.
He said the two reports should be referred to a parliamentary select committee, which should submit recommendations to the May-June meeting of Parliament starting on May 22 on the action to be taken. - FMT
