King Hands Jalur Gemilang To Malaysia S Olympics And Paralympics Contingent
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Olympics contingent’s countdown to Tokyo got a royal touch after the King handed over the Jalur Gemilang to Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican at the National Palace on Tuesday (July 6).
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah presented the Jalur Gemilang to Reezal as a symbolic sign of acceptance on behalf of both the National Contingent to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Also present at the ceremony was Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria and Malaysian Paralympic Council president Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharuddin.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will occur from July 23 to Aug 8 and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games from Aug 24 to Sept 5.
During the meeting, the King was briefed on the preparation and participation of the national contingent in the two games.
In a statement issued by the Youth and Sports Ministry, the king congratulated all the country's athletes for their perseverance and tenacity as well as their success in qualifying to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
"His Majesty expressed the hope that the national athletes will be able to display their best performance to raise Malaysia's name on the highest stage in the world," he said the statement.
"Apart from that, His Majesty expressed the hope that the athletes and officials would always be vigilant in taking care of their health while at the games.
"His Majesty called on all the people to be with His Majesty in praying that the National athletes achieve the targets set at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games." - Star
