He said national security and defence were not solely the responsibility of the armed forces, they require a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach with the shared goal of safeguarding the country.
"The world is becoming increasingly uncertain, especially with rapid changes in technology and geopolitics.
"The strength and ability of our armed forces alone is not enough to curb the many threats we face.
"The public must play their part in the nation's defence and security.
"We want national defence agendas to be aligned with the country's broader goals and aspirations," he said in his speech at the Royal Malaysian Air Force base here today.
Earlier, Khaled officiated at the two-day Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Carnival 2025 held for the 92nd Malaysian Armed Forces Day celebration.
He said the CIMIC initiative aimed to support the national defence agenda collectively across all levels of society.
"CIMIC is not just about holding shows, performances or exhibitions.
"Through this event, we want to prepare the people to play their roles by being aware and understanding issues related to national defence and security, and to refrain from doing anything that can jeopardise the nation's peace.
"Our aim is to raise awareness and foster public understanding so that everyone pays attention to matters concerning defence and security.
"This can inspire interest in joining the armed forces or volunteering in the reserve corps."
Khaled said the initiative could strengthen public confidence in the capability and readiness of the country's armed forces. - NST
