Khairuddin Will Not Resign As Kuala Nerus Mp
Khairuddin Aman Razali will not resign as the Kuala Nerus MP and has vowed to continue serving the constituents who voted for him during the 14th general election (GE14).
Despite announcing his departure from PAS yesterday, Khairuddin said he decided to hand over his monthly MP allowances to his former party until the next GE.
Although the Parliament session was coming to a close, the decision, he said, was in keeping with an oath made during his GE14 campaign as a PAS candidate.
"It is my undertaking (ijtihad) to remain as an MP, but I will relinquish allowances I receive as an MP to PAS.
"In the meantime, I will continue to work without an MP's salary or allowance until the end of the term to ensure that allocations continue to reach the people without favour.
"Therefore, it is my ijtihad to remain as an MP," he added.
Khairuddin was commenting on calls for him to resign as Kuala Nerus MP.
Yesterday, mere hours after Khairuddin announced his decision to leave the party, PAS Youth deputy chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden brought up the pledge of allegiance taken by the party’s GE14 candidates.
PAS Youth deputy chief Afnan Hamimi Taib AzamuddenThe pledge touched on the need to obey the party's leaders so long as there are no conflicts with Islam and not to leave the party following a victory in an election.
Not joining Umno
Khairuddin said he was willing to resign his position if Parliament allowed for the immediate election of a new candidate.
If an election is not allowed, he asked who would take his place to continue serving Kuala Nerus' constituents.
"Although the 14th Parliament is coming to the end of its term, we don't know exactly when it will be dissolved, and it could be a year from now.
"More importantly, who would serve the people in this constituency during the remaining one year?
"I won with the votes of PAS supporters, those who were sitting on the fence and a portion from Umno. So I have to serve those who voted me into this position.”
Meanwhile, commenting on Ketereh MP Annuar Musa's invitation to join Umno, Khairuddin stressed he would not join the party but be friendly with it.
"I will not join Umno.
"However, Umno was in a working partnership with PAS in Muafakat Nasional and practised a prosperous, mature political culture. I too will be friendly with Umno," he added.
Annuar said Khairuddin had been side-lined by his party and was facing several other issues.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that the former plantation industries and commodities minister had applied to quit PAS.
However, Khairuddin did not give a reason for his decision but recently had been critical of PAS, especially during the recent Johor polls. - Mkini
