Khairuddin Dumped But Pas Has Full Confidence In Cabinet Line Up
PAS has full confidence that the new cabinet line-up announced by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday will continue efforts to address the Covid-19 pandemic and revive the country’s economy.
Its president, Abdul Hadi Awang, said the party welcomed and supported the prime minister’s leadership and the formation of the cabinet announced yesterday.
“PAS calls on all parties to help solve the country’s problems together.
“Now is the time to save the people and revive the economy affected by the pandemic, not the time for endless politicking to the point of hampering the implementation of the National Recovery Plan as a whole,” he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, the prime minister announced the formation of a new cabinet after obtaining the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The new cabinet is scheduled to be sworn in next Monday.
Ismail Sabri, when announcing the list, said the main task of the new cabinet is to deal with Covid-19 and revive the economy.
Several PAS leaders are also listed in Ismail Sabri’s cabinet including PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who was retained as environment and water minister, and PAS vice-president Senator Idris Ahmad, who comes in as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) to replace Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.
Idris’ appointment gives PAS the top two positions overseeing religious affairs as Ahmad Marzuk Shaary is maintained as deputy.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, whose mishandling of the end to emergency rule led to a royal rebuke that played a role in hastening the demise of the previous Muhyiddin Yassin government, was still retained in the cabinet, albeit in the new role of energy and water resources minister.
However, Khairuddin Aman Razali was dumped as plantation industries and commodities minister, having been embroiled in a controversy over Covid-19 standard operating procedure violations.
His alleged friction with Hadi following a leaked recording was also notable.
Aside from Marzuk, three other PAS deputy ministers were retained - Amzad Mohamed, Awang Hashim and Siti Zailah Md Yusoff while Muhammad Zawawi Salleh was another fresh appointee as agriculture and food industries deputy minister.
Meanwhile, PAS information chief Kamaruzaman Mohamad said PAS was confident that the formation of the cabinet, which was approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, was done very carefully and in accordance with the Federal Constitution.
“PAS also congratulates the three ministers and five deputy ministers from PAS who have been entrusted to be members of the new Malaysian cabinet.
“However, let us not be complacent because the heavy task is being borne by the country’s leadership. Efforts to recover the country from the Covid-19 epidemic, especially in terms of health and economy must be implemented immediately,” he said.
He explained that PAS will continue to give its commitment to help the government move the agenda of unity and national recovery for the sake of common prosperity.
Aside from the cabinet posts, PAS also helms the state administrations in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.
