Kemaman Victory Will Benefit Terengganu As A Whole Bn Candidate
KEMAMAN BY-ELECTION | A BN victory in the Kemaman by-election on Dec 2 would not only benefit voters in the parliamentary constituency but the people of Terengganu in general.
This is according to BN’s candidate, former chief of defence forces Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, who is contesting the seat against Perikatan Nasional’s Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who is the Terengganu menteri besar.
According to the 66-year-old, such a victory is important to teach PAS a lesson, as the party is currently leading Terengganu without any opposition.
“If BN wins, the PAS-led state government will feel threatened. So they will serve the people better.
“Give Kemaman to BN. We will not only get the attention of the federal government, but the rakyat will get to enjoy an abundance of favours…
“So who benefits? The rakyat. So Kemaman votes are critical to chart a good future for the people of Terengganu,” Affandi told Malaysiakini in an interview in Chukai, today.
He also shared how questions were raised about his candidacy, explaining that his foray into politics comes on the back of his experience in the military.
“People have asked me why I was getting involved in politics since I’m not a politician. Yes, I’m not a politician, but I see myself as a soldier-statesman.”
He added that he could not let this opportunity pass by and that seizing it would hopefully inspire more to make a difference in the country.
“I became a candidate so I will not have any regrets in life. I don’t want to turn down a chance to make a difference when the opportunity presents itself.
“There’s no point in living like that. So, I am contesting and maybe it will lead others to do the same.
“It may pave the way for (former) high-ranking government officials to utilise their experience to serve the rakyat as an elected representative,” he said, adding that a retiree should not stop serving the people.
Listening to complaints
Affandi said campaigning has been going on smoothly since Saturday and that he has been listening to the grievances of the constituents.
“Every time I go down to the ground, I hear people voicing their concerns. But I just take note of the complaints and don’t politicise them.
“I tell them (the voters) that we don’t promise them the ‘moon and the stars’, but we take note of their concerns. I don’t want to give high hopes to the rakyat.
“However, if given the mandate on Dec 2, I promise to bring the people’s concerns to the Parliament.” - Mkini
