Kedah Macc Finds No Wrongdoing In Baling Durian Farm Approval
PETALING JAYA: There was no element of wrongdoing in the Kedah state government's decision to approve a Musang King durian farm on Gunung Inas in Baling, Kedah, says the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Kedah MACC director Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap said it had gone through nearly all of the state government's meeting minutes related to the project and other relevant documents, reported Malay daily Harian Metro.
Preliminary checks on the documents did not reveal any element of wrongdoing or misappropriation over the project, he said.
"However, we do not rule out the possibility of launching further investigations into the durian farm project if we get new information," he said
He said no official reports were lodged over but Kedah MACC took the initiative to initiate investigations and to get the necessary documents.
On July 4, several areas in Baling were hit by floods after continuous downpour for three hours, affecting 1,490 residents and claiming three lives.
The development of the Musang King durian farm in Gunung Inas was alleged to have contributed to the incident and various parties called for an investigation to be carried out.
However, Kedah Mentri Besar Sanusi Md Nor denied the project contributed to the floods, stating the ponds there had not burst as claimed.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan also said the floods were not caused by logging.
The MACC had initiated a probe into the durian farm in July to find out if there was any element of corruption or wrongdoing in the mountain-top project. - Star
