Kawasanku Open Data Platform Prevents Wastage During Donation Drives
A new open data platform, Kawasanku, launched last Monday, aims to accurately understand the public’s needs and prevent wastage during voluntary work or donation drives.
The platform was launched by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and can identify in detail population statistics such as gender, age, and ethnicity.
Chief Statistician Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the data provided can help all parties better understand the needs of the people in each area of the country.
“Data released by DOSM through the Kawasanku platform is not only important to the government but also helps non-governmental organisations or the private sector in their voluntary work or donation drives.
“This is because they can know in detail the population statistics in a state such as the gender, age, and ethnicity breakdown within the parliamentary or state constituencies,” he said at a press conference in Kuantan, Pahang, today.
For the record, Kawasanku contains information related to the demographic profile of the population based on the findings of the Population and Housing Census of Malaysia 2020.
Uzir (above) said all parties can also make suggestions based on the statistics to improve the facilities or economy of an area.
”By accessing https://kawasanku.dosm.gov.my, people from all walks of life can understand the socio-economy and environment of their area.
“They also have the opportunity to give suggestions and this is what we need in building our nation together based on the population census,” he said.
