Karim Explains Why He Was Scolded By A Voter
KIMANIS POLLS | Following the spread of a video of him being given an earful by a voter, Warisan candidate Karim Bujang has explained that the man scolded him after not being given the position of village head
Met last night, Karim (above) said that he had been on the way to visit the man’s ill mother in Membakut when he was reproached
He later discovered that the man was upset that he did not get appointed as a village head
“I was surprised at his (the man’s) reaction. He scolded me about things I did not know
“I then found out that two individuals from our group had asked him (the man) to work for us but did not offer any wages. I did not think that was a big deal
“I struggled to determine what the issue was but when I asked some people living near the area (where the altercation happened), I found out that the man was upset because he was not given the position of village head,” he told Malaysiakini
Lasting 28 seconds, the video depicts a shirtless man shouting at Karim about being dissatisfied with some “work” done
Karim believed that the video was intentionally spread on social media to hamper his image during the by-election campaign
Elaborating, he said he had no intention of arguing with the man in question
“He had no intention to scold me and you can see through the video that I was listening and answering to whatever he said
“I have no intention of fighting or arguing with people like this
“But when the video went viral, I was shocked that today’s world only thinks about such sensational things and does not base things on facts or what really happened,” he added
Sabah state ruling party Warisan is fielding Karim against BN’s Mohamad Alamin for the Jan 18 by-election
A former Bongawan assemblyperson while still with BN, Karim was Warisan’s candidate for the parliamentary seat in GE14. Mohamad, meanwhile, is the Umno Kimanis division chief
Karim had filed an election petition following his GE14 loss. The by-election was called after the Kota Kinabalu Election Court nullified former minister Anifah Aman’s win, ruling that the presence of additional ballot papers had influenced the election result. - Mkini
