Join Hands To Help Rakyat Cope With Covid 19 Impact Ft Umno Chief Urges Parties

Federal Territories Umno chief Johari Abdul Ghani says the Covid-19 outbreak affects every level of society.PETALING JAYA: Federal Territories Umno chief Johari Abdul Ghani has called on Umno, PAS and PPBM to work together to help the rakyat cope with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Johari, a former finance minister II, said the economic impact caused by the pandemic affected everyone from those in the B40 and M40 groups to those in the T20, as well as small- and medium-sized entrepreneurs and public-listed companies.
“Taking into account the increase in Covid-19 cases and the country’s worsening economy, Federal Territories Umno is calling on all political parties, be it Umno, PAS or even PPBM to join hands to resolve issues faced by the rakyat and help lessen their burden in such trying times,” he said in a statement.
Umno, PAS and PPBM, together with several other parties, form the loose coalition of Perikatan Nasional (PN), which runs the federal government with the support of Sarawak’s ruling GPS coalition.
Johari’s comments come a day after party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi declared a political ceasefire and reiterated the party’s support for the PN-led government.
Zahid’s statement came amid strained ties between Umno and PPBM. Last week, Umno said it had set “new conditions” for its continued support of the government.
Zahid said the ceasefire and support for the government was to ensure the agenda to help the people and the economy was prioritised.
In welcoming Zahid’s call, Johari hoped that the nation would be able to overcome the pandemic and the country’s economy would grow again. - FMT
