(gtspirit.com pic)JOHOR BAHRU: Mercedes-Benz AG has chosen Malaysia as its regional parts logistics centre for the Asia Pacific to manage and distribute replacement spare parts and accessories, serving 22 countries.
In a statement today, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) said the new facility which will be located in Senai here, will feature a storage capacity of approximately 92,903.04sq m and equipped with advanced storage and materials-handling systems to better serve its regional supply chain network.
It said this move was discussed during the trade and investment mission to Germany led by senior international trade and industry minister Azmin Ali last week.
The minister said Mercedes-Benz’s decision to choose Malaysia not only signalled the company’s continual pursuit for growth but was also an embodiment of the company’s confidence in the country’s conducive ecosystem and strength to support the company’s long-term growth.
“It also acknowledges the capability of our local talent of highly skilled engineers, technicians and Malaysia as the key global supply chain and distribution hub in the region,” said Azmin.
Meanwhile, Mida chief executive officer Arham Abdul Rahman said the government acknowledged the positive spillovers of quality investments into the development of Malaysia’s business ecosystem.
“Mida has been consistent in our efforts to scout and attract quality investments from around the world.
“This latest investment by Mercedes-Benz will assume a critical role to further strengthen the links within our local industry, create high-value jobs for Malaysians and enhance our country’s position as a global supply chain and distribution hub,” he added.
Mercedes-Benz joins the increasing number of global and regional distribution hubs established in Malaysia by companies in the automotive, life sciences and medical devices, electrical and electronics (E&E) industries as well as machinery and equipment (M&E). - FMT
