Johari Is Said To Be Making A Comeback In Titiwangsa
Federal Territories Umno chief Johari Abdul Ghani is said to be making a comeback in the Titiwangsa parliamentary seat in the upcoming 15th general election.
A source told Malaysiakini that the people in Titiwangsa really want Johari (above) to contest in the constituency again, as he has been consistent in servicing the area despite no longer holding the seat.
“Before this, he was the Titiwangsa MP. When he was gone (lost), a lot of people didn’t get help because he wasn’t around.
“He (Johari) definitely is contesting. The people want him to contest,” the source said.
Johari, who is a Kuala Lumpur native, was previously the Titiwangsa MP after winning the seat in GE13 with 23,034 votes, against PAS’ candidate Ahmad Zamri Asa’ad Khuzami who got 22,168 votes.
Johari was also the former finance minister II during the BN administration.
Incumbent Titiwangsa MP Rina HarunHowever, the Titiwangsa seat was seized by Bersatu’s Rina Harun in GE14, with 23,840 votes in a three-way fight between Johari (19,701) and PAS’ Mohamad Noor Mohamad (6,845).
It is understood that Rina, who was previously the Sepang Umno Puteri chief, will be running in Sepang under Bersatu’s banner for GE15.
Meanwhile, other names reported to be contesting in Titiwangsa include incumbent Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad from Amanah, Muda’s Siti Rahayu Baharin (Cikgu Ayu), Bersatu’s Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal and PAS central committee member Dr Rosni Adam.
PAS had earlier announced Rosni as PN’s candidate for Titiwangsa, describing the 52-year-old dentist as someone who is very amiable and has done a lot of welfare and community work.
Following the announcement, Malaysiakini contacted Fayhsal for his response as Bersatu is also a part of PN.
“Me? Don’t know yet (which seat I will contest),” he said. - Mkini
