Joe Biden Is Us President 2020
"This is a time to heal in America." - Joe Biden, 2020.
As a fast growing developing country, Malaysia attaches great importance to its relations with the United States. Now Malaysia looks forward to strengthening further partnership with the United States under President-elect Joe Biden’s leadership as the international community seeks to address the many global challenges including the disastrous impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a report by AFP, Biden has won the White House, US media said Saturday, defeating Donald Trump.
Congratulating Biden on his historic victory in the recent 2020 US presidential election, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin wished Biden great success in his presidency and looks forward to meeting him personally when an opportunity arises. He noted that Malaysia had closely followed the electoral process in the US with much anticipation.
“The American voters have decided decisively in endorsing Mr Biden as the 46th President of the United States for his leadership and vision. The US-Malaysia Comprehensive Partnership continues to be an overarching framework for pro-active, multifaceted and mutually beneficial collaboration between the two countries,” he said in a statement here today.
With Mr Biden leading the country, he is likely to bring about a more liberal and inclusive America much like former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, which saw the coming of age of an increasingly welfare state. Internationally, it would mean a less transactional, more predictable America which once again embraces multilateralism and free trade. The return of free trade is of special interest to Malaysia and many other Southeast Asian countries for which renewed trade with and investment from America are important for their economic development.
The Democratic Biden wrested the White House from Donald Trump after holding a commanding 290 delegates, even as the states of Georgia, North Carolina, and Alaska remain outstanding several days after Tuesday’s presidential election.
Echoing the introductory speech by his running-mate, Vice-President-Elect Kamala Harris, Biden in his speech pledged to be a president for all Americans, including the 70 million who voted to re-elect Trump
The incoming 46th president acknowledged the current era of hyper-partisan politics and tense race relations across the country. “Let this grim era of demonization in America begin to end – here and now,” he said.
“It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric. To lower the temperature. To see each other again. To listen to each other again. To make progress, we must stop treating our opponents as our enemy. We are not enemies. We are Americans. The Bible tells us that to everything there is a season — a time to build, a time to reap, a time to sow. And a time to heal. This is the time to heal in America,” Biden added.
Biden stressed the need for unity in addressing the challenges the country faces going forward, and he reached out to supporters of Donald Trump.
“And to those who voted for President Trump, I understand your disappointment tonight. I’ve lost a couple of elections myself,” Biden said. “But now, let’s give each other a chance.”
Trump has not conceded the race and sent out several angry tweets, baselessly alleging vote count irregularities. The Republican president lashed out with unsubstantiated claims of fraud and claimed that he had won. As of Saturday, Trump had not extended an invitation to meet with Biden, as presidents normally do with their successors.
