(MRT Corp pic)JOHOR BAHRU: Work on the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link has reached 32.42%, works, transportation and infrastructure committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said.
He said the Johor government is committed to ensuring that the high-impact public transport project will be operational in 2026.
“We expect the project infrastructure to be completed in December 2024 and the link to be operational by December 2026. So far, we are running on schedule,” he told reporters after visiting the RTS Link site at Marine Viaduct here yesterday.

He said the RTS Link, spanning 4km between Woodlands North station in Singapore and Bukit Chagar station here, will be able to serve up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
A task force had been set up in October 2020 to discuss matters related to the state government such as land issues, with PLANMalaysia Johor as its secretariat.
On a proposal to establish a Light Rail Transit (LRT) service in Johor Bahru, Fazli said the state government is open to suggestions but the matter requires a more comprehensive study since Johor already has other modes of public transport.
On March 28, transport minister Loke Siew Fook was reported to have said a private company had proposed to build an LRT network in the city.
Fazli also said the state government will hold a coordination meeting with the immigration department to plan for the smooth movement of vehicles at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building here and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex at Iskandar Puteri ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. - FMT
