Jalur Gemilang Burned Stomped Women Harassed In Escalating Malaysian Sri Lankan Tiktok War

A SERIES of disturbing acts streamed live on TikTok has ignited international outrage and calls for urgent regulatory intervention after Malaysian and Sri Lankan cyberbullies traded racial provocation, religious insults and gender-based harassment in front of hundreds of viewers.
The incident began when @adanga_tamilan2, a Sri Lankan national residing in Kuwait, was seen burning the Malaysian flag during a live TikTok session hosted through a fake account under the name @irandumani.
Witnessed by around 300 TikTokers, the session quickly descended into hate speech, obscenities and the mocking of Malaysian viewers who attempted to chastise such unruly behaviour.
Further fuelling outrage, a woman known as Aisyah, also a Sri Lankan, shared an image of the Hindu god Ganesha portrayed as a pig – an extremely offensive act to the Hindu community – which incited religious and racial tensions in the live chat.

Photo of the Sri Lankan woman allegedly uploaded by Malaysian TikToker “Mr Blade”Retaliation escalates to gender war
The origin of this cyber war can be traced to the previous day when Malaysian TikToker “Mr Blade” allegedly uploaded photos of Sri Lankan women – both private or random images – in what appears to be an act of public shaming or trolling.
Among the Malaysian viewers was a young woman named Hema who was seen begging the hosts to remove her photo which had been circulated without her consent.
Instead of honouring her plea, the host verbally abused her with vulgarity and demeaning language, further sparking causing public outcry.
In retaliation, Sri Lankan users then targeted Malaysian women by posting random images accompanied by sexual threats, vulgar comments and harassment.
What began as online trolling among a few users has now mutated into a gendered cyber war with innocent women on both sides being humiliated, sexualised and attacked without consent.
Sadly, images of unrelated individuals – many likely unaware of the situation – are being weaponised in a deeply harmful digital conflict.
TikTok sees no violation, Fahmi intervenes
Despite hundreds of live viewers reporting the livestream, TikTok has responded with automated moderation notices by stating that “no community guideline violations were found”
This blatant failure of the platform’s trust and safety mechanisms has triggered condemnation from civil society and digital rights advocates.
At the time of writing, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to look into the said TikTok live stream.
“This is too much. I have alerted MCMC,” he told Free Malaysia Today (FMT).
On the same note, the Global Human Rights Federation (GHRF) has expressed concern that the cyberwar between Malaysian and Sri Lankan cyberbullies could have adverse effect especially on their female victims.
“This incident draws disturbing parallels to the 2023 suicide of Esha, a young Malaysian woman who ended her life after enduring prolonged harassment on TikTok,” recounted the NGO’s founder and president S. Shashi Kumar.

Global Human Rights Federation (GHRF) founder and president S. Shashi Kumar“In the aftermath, Communications Minister Fahmi and de-facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said had pledged sweeping reforms to address the matter. However, this week’s events clearly show that those promises remain largely unfulfilled.”
Among others, the so-called “sweeping reforms” include (i) enhanced online safety laws; (ii) tighter content moderation standards; (iii) identity verification for social media user; and (iv) legal protections for victims of cyberbullying.
“With women like Hema begging for dignity, this is no longer a case of ‘just social media drama’ but one that transcends human rights and national security issues,” asserted Shashi.
“If swift action is not taken by TikTok, the relevant authorities and lawmakers, more lives could be irreparably damaged or lost.” – Focus Malaysia
