PETALING JAYA: The Islamic development department (Jakim) has lodged an official complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over a social media post deemed offensive to Islam.
In a statement, Jakim director-general Sirajuddin Suhaimee said a police report had also been lodged to ensure firm action would be taken against the person responsible for the post.Sirajuddin said the post, which had been widely shared on social media, clearly demeans Islamic teachings.
He said Jakim views the incident seriously and urged the authorities to take decisive action in accordance with the law.
“This statement has clearly caused societal disharmony and could potentially trigger interfaith and interracial tensions. Therefore, all parties must refrain from any actions that may provoke anger or discord,” he said.
Sirajuddin also reminded the public to practise mutual respect and mind their manners, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
The incident comes a day after Jakim had criticised the three Era FM radio hosts who featured in a video that apparently mocked Hindu practices.
Sirajuddin said Islam is a religion that promotes peace and harmony, and that belittling or mocking non-Islamic religious practices not only contradicts Islamic teachings, but can also provoke tension and affect national harmony.
“Jakim would like to remind all parties to be mindful of religious sensitivities in everything they say and do.” - FMT
