Iwk Refutes Selangor Exco Says Authorities Were Informed When Pollutants Were Detected
IWK says police reports were also filed once the suspected sources of pollution had been identified.KUALA LUMPUR: Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd says it had informed the National Water Services Commission (SPAN), Selangor state environment department and Selayang Municipal Council the same day it detected the entry of illegal wastewater into its facility on Nov 4.
This comes after Selangor executive councillor (exco) Hee Loy Sian today said that the state government, Luas (Selangor Water Management Authority), and Air Selangor had all not been informed of the pollution.
“IWK remains committed and shares information with the authorities in tackling the issue of the entry of illegal wastewater into the sewage treatment plant and hopes that all parties also help to identify the perpetrators of environmental crimes that pollute our water resources,” it said in a statement.
IWK explained that a report was filed on Nov 4, and that it had also conducted an investigation with SPAN the next day, during which they identified two suspected sources of the pollution.
IWK said a police report was then lodged with the Rawang police station and Gombak district police headquarters (IPD) “for further investigation under environmental crimes.”
“Various immediate actions were taken, including employing a chemical catalyst to improve the biological treatment process, defoaming and the removal of contaminated wastewater.”
On Nov 10, when an illegal wastewater substance was found in the Taman Velox plant, IWK said they immediately transferred the contaminated water to another facility for off-site treatment. - FMT
