Instant Noodles Recalled In S Pore Same Batch Not Found Here Says Health Dg
Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says the health ministry will continue to monitor all Mie Sedaap products in the market. (Singapore Food Agency pic)PETALING JAYA: The batches of two instant noodle products recalled in Singapore because of the presence of ethylene oxide (ETO) were not brought into Malaysia, says the health ministry.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry was notified of the product recall of Mie Sedaap’s Korean Spicy Chicken and Korean Spicy Soup flavours.
The recalled Mie Sedaap Korean Spicy Soup had an expiry date of March 17, 2023, while the Mi Sedaap Korean Spicy Chicken had an expiry date of May 21, 2023.
While the Korean Spicy Soup flavour instant noodle was imported into Malaysia, he said, the batches available here did not have the same expiry date as the ones recalled in Singapore.
“The health ministry will continue to monitor products in the market and test (products entering the country) at all international entry points,” Noor Hisham said in a statement.
Those concerned about consuming the instant noodles made by the company may reach out to the nearest district health office or contact the ministry at its website or the Facebook page of its food safety and quality control division.
ETO is a carcinogenic chemical gas compound that is often used in pesticide fumigation. It is also used as an active ingredient in cleaning agents that are not allowed to be used on surfaces of items used to store food.
Yesterday, Singapore’s food agency said it was recalling the products due to the presence of the carcinogen in the instant noodles. It said it was continuing regulatory testing of other Mie Sedaap products.
The pesticide was also detected in Haagen-Dazs’ vanilla ice cream in August, which was recalled in Malaysia. - FMT
