Indian Leaders Told To Stop Squabbling And Start Solving Community Issues

KKB BY-ELECTION | Former Klang MP Charles Santiago today told Indian political leaders to focus on solving the community’s issues instead of firing salvos at each other against the backdrop of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
This is after DAP lawmaker RSN Rayer lambasted his former comrade P Ramasamy for urging Indian voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu not to support Pakatan Harapan.
In a statement, Charles (above) said the Indians in Kuala Kubu Baharu have been facing long-standing issues that need solutions instead of seeing their politicians fight.
“Sixty-plus years and Kuala Kubu Baharu Indians still have unresolved issues. But instead of finding durable solutions, we are busy throwing brickbats at each other.
“Could this be why issues affecting Indians never get resolved in the first place?” he said in a statement on Facebook.
‘Listen to the people’
In what appeared to be criticisms aimed at Rayer and Harapan, Charles pointed out housing issues in the constituency that saw a Tamil school having to shelter abandoned children.
Questioning whether coalition leaders have visited the affected communities, he urged Harapan to start listening to the people again and solve their woes.
“Policy must reflect the aspirations of affected communities. In Kuala Kubu Baharu we have long-standing housing issues with one Tamil school sheltering abandoned kids.
“How many of those screaming at the top of their lungs have visited the people and children? I forgot how easy it is to be keyboard warriors.
“No one would trust you if you turun padang (go to the ground) now, promising Indians the moon and the sun. So, go listen to their issues and come up with strategic ideas to mitigate them.”
Charles added that even if Harapan retains Kuala Kubu Baharu in the polls, the people may not believe the coalition once more if it fails to address their issues.
RSN RayerYesterday, Rayer in a statement attacked Ramasamy and those aligned to the latter who are campaigning against Harapan in the by-election.
This came after Ramasamy, who heads the DAP splinter party Urimai, urged voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu not to cast their ballots for Harapan.
‘Rayer king of sycophants’
Rayer accused Ramasamy and his "sidekicks" of going against Harapan because they were dropped from contesting in the state elections.
In response to this, Ramasamy this morning posted on Facebook denying the notion.
Instead, the former Penang deputy chief minister said they resigned from DAP because of alleged systematic purges by certain party leaders.
P Ramasamy"Yes, I and my friends resigned from DAP not because we were not offered seats, but because of the systematic purge undertaken by certain leaders in DAP to keep intact family interests.
"Moreover, the need to have a good relationship with Umno was the other reason I was dropped as the candidate.
"I am sure the king of sycophants in the party, Rayer, knows this. As usual he pretends to put up a brave front to castigate those who left the party as a bunch of traitors and those who were without principles," Ramasamy added. - Mkini
