Increase In Number Of Flood Evacuees In Sabah And Johor

(Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees at temporary relief centres (PPS) in Sabah and Johor recorded a slight increase as at 8am compared with last night, while in Pahang, the number remained the same.
In Sabah, the number of flood evacuees increased to 1,532 people, who are housed at 10 PPS, up from 1,376 people last night.
The state disaster management committee (JPBN) stated that Pitas district recorded the highest number of flood evacuees, involving 1,152 people, followed by Telupid with 226 people, Paitan with 111 people and Lahad Datu with 43 people.
In Johor, the number of flood evacuees in four districts increased to 2,138 people, up from 2,113 people last night.

A total of 22 PPS are still operating in the four districts namely Batu Pahat, Mersing, Kota Tinggi and Segamat.
The Batu Pahat district still recorded the highest number of victims with 879 people, followed by Mersing (823), Kota Tinggi (344) and Segamat (92), according to the JPBN today.
Meanwhile, Sungai Endau in Mersing recorded a dangerous water level with a reading of 2.38m, but it is believed that the water level was subsiding.
In Pahang, the 27 flood victims at the PPS at Sekolah Kebangsaan Denai in Rompin, last night, are still there this morning.
The water level in Sungai Rompin, at the Segamat-Kuantan bridge in the Kuantan district, still remains at the danger level with a reading of 10.68m this morning.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a severe warning of continuous rain in several parts of Sarawak until tomorrow (Feb 1).
In the warning notice, MetMalaysia also forecasts continuous rain at the alert level until tomorrow in Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin) and Johor (Mersing and Kota Tinggi).
Meanwhile, continuous rain is also expected in Kudat, Sabah. - FMT
