Igp Slams Viral Message That Defames Police Malaysiakini

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador has slammed a fake viral message that defamed both the police and Malaysiakini.
He was referring to a viral message which claimed he was disappointed that the police and two top Bukit Aman directors were taking bribes from drug traffickers and illegal gambling operators.
This, he said, was an exaggeration and manipulation of a Malaysiakini article in Bahasa Malaysia about a reshuffle in Bukit Aman's anti-vice, criminal investigation, and narcotics departments.
The reshuffle was due to some officers reportedly being in cahoots with criminal syndicates.
"This irresponsible act (of exaggerating and manipulating news) clearly has malicious intent towards police who were accused in the fake news.
"It also gives a negative perception towards Malaysiakini which had published news that was accurate and authentic based on my statement to the media regarding the reshuffle," he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, the top cop said Bukit Aman's Management Department had formed a special committee to screen all police personnel who were qualified to carry out their duties in those departments.
Those found to have taken advantage of certain syndicates or criminals involved in gambling and drug businesses would be moved out.
Hamid said the screening process involved Bukit Aman, as well as contingent and district levels, with an initial focus on the Klang Valley, notably Kuala Lumpur.
"This is important to ensure that Kuala Lumpur is clear of police officers who have abused their power and have reflected badly on the police force's image," he said. - Mkini
