Idris Cm Can Be Me Adly Or Anyone But We Need To Win First
MALACCA POLLS | Pakatan Harapan's Asahan candidate Idris Haron said "anyone" can be the coalition's chief ministerial candidate but stressed that they must first succeed in winning a majority of seats.
He said this after being formally announced by the Election Commission as an election candidate for the constituency after the conclusion of the nomination process.
"Under this electoral system, we can put anyone - it can be me, it can be Adly Zahari or anyone.
"Idris Haron is not important. What is important is what we can offer that is better for Malaccans.
"It has to be 15 of us; if's there's even one short it won't happen," he told journalists.
Unity government
Idris (above) was responding to a question on whether he will back Adly as Harapan's chief ministerial candidate.
Adly served as Harapan's chief minister from 2018 to 2020 while Idris was BN's chief minister from 2013 to 2018.
He was sacked from Umno and BN after trying to bring down Sulaiman Md Ali's government and attempting to form a new one with Harapan.
A total of 15 out of 28 state seats are needed to form the state government.
Idris does not rule out the formation of a unity government if either coalition falls short of a majority.
The three major coalitions contesting in the state polls are BN, PN and Harapan.
DAP Malacca chief Tey Kok Kiew
Asked about DAP protesting his candidacy under a Harapan ticket and describing it as a mistake, Idris said all were free to air their opinions.
"In politics, everyone can give their views but in the end, it is the voters who decide.
"Whether it (my candidacy under Harapan) is a mistake or not, it has already happened," he said.
Meanwhile, DAP Malacca chief Tey Kok Kiew indicated that his party will not campaign for Umno defectors contesting under Harapan's banner.
"We have said we won't support the four of them as candidates," he told journalists after his nomination as Harapan's candidate for the state seat of Bemban.
DAP to focus on 15 seats
He added that DAP will focus on the 15 seats that Harapan has a chance of winning, including eight of DAP's own seats.
Idris had led a group of four assemblypersons including himself to withdraw support for Sulaiman's government.
The other three were Nor Azman Hassan (Umno), Noor Effandi Ahmad (Bersatu) and Norhizam Hassan Baktee (independent, ex-DAP).
They have all been sacked from their parties.
PKR is fielding Idris while Nor Azman is being fielded by Amanah as Harapan candidates.
However, the coalition has rejected Noor Effandi and Norhizam.
Norhizam will be contesting in Pengkalan Batu as an independent. - Mkini
